What is Rattle and Drum?

Rattle and Drum is a parent and toddlers singing group. With the use of masks, actions and props we sing, dance and march learning well known nursery rhymes, traditional and new, such as "The Wheels On the Bus" and our favourite "Sleeping Bunnies."

The class sizes are small never being more than 18. They are  well structured always starting and ending with the same song. They are run in a friendly and informal manner and the class is often finished with a sing-along to the guitar.

It is a great environment for children to learn to interact with one another and to learn that sharing and tidying up can be fun! It teaches children to hold a tune and to find rhythm to dance and move to. It is very interactive with everyone having a go.

Music Benefits

There have been many recent studies showing that music encourages creativity, stimulates the mind and helps lay a foundation for learning. Music education teaches patience, sensitivity, coordination, and the ability to memorize and concentrate.

Plato once said “music is a more potent instrument than any other for education…”

The Scientists believe that music trains the brain for higher forms of thinking. Studies have shown that music education in pre-school children increases spatial intelligence and enhances abstract reasoning skills, skills that later transfer into mathematical and engineering skills.
